Manor Stables is a beautiful detached bungalow set in just under an acre of grounds. It can be found in the quiet village of Rippingale, just off the A15 between Sleaford and Bourne. The gardens are made up of formal areas laid to lawn, a coppice and paddock; it is ideal for a quiet break or a horse riding holiday in picturesque Lincolnshire. Converted into a private dwelling in 1987 this used to be the stable block for Rippingale's Manor House. The property still retains many original features of the stables including hay feeders, troughs and stable doors. It comfortably sleeps 6 and each double room has its own en-suite shower room. There is a good size country kitchen, dining room for entertaining, a large living area with inglenook fireplace and wood burning stove, ideal for those cosy evenings in. There is ample parking for at least 4 cars, a double garage and exclusive access to the secure paddock for horses and/or horse boxes. The Bull Inn is the award winning village pub is only a minutes walk away, they offer fantastic traditional pub food or an a-la-carte menu for those special occassions.

Sleeps 6 in one double and two twin rooms, all en-suite. Please see our accomodation page for more details.

Horses, riding and walking

The paddock has plenty of grazing for horses and has fresh water available however, despite the name there are no stable facilities at the moment but we aim to be putting them in soon. The paddock is secure to all sides with wooden fence and access directly from the property. In the area are plenty of bridleways for both intermediate and advanced rider. There are routes and maps available at the stables however it is recommended you do a little research before you arrive. We require prior notice if you intend to bring your horse as occasionally we have other livestock grazing.

There are lots of walks in the area, some taking in local pubs. There are maps and guide books at the property.

Bourne & surrounding area

The local town of Bourne is just a 10 minute drive away. Bourne lies on the edge of the Fens, at the foot of the limestone hills of Kesteven, and has a notable history. In 1020 Hereward the Wake is said to have been born here, and the earthworks on which stood his castle can be seen in the park to the south of the town centre. The town can lay claim to being the cradle of the English language as Robert Manning, considered to be the first man to read and write English as we know it today, was also born here. The only house of the Augustinian canons of the Arrouasian Reform was founded at Bourne in 1138 and was where Robert Manning wrote his most important works. Although there is very little remaining evidence of monastic activity, the abbey church remains as it was rebuilt about 1200. Interesting buildings include Red Hall, an early 17th century red brick house and the Town Hall built in 1821. In more modern times Bourne was the home of ERA racing cars and the BRM motor racing team. Bourne has a population of approximately 10,000. Bourne has a good sized supermarket and a host of useful and interesting shops. There is also a good selection of pubs, bars and takeaways.

Further afield you have Grantham and Stamford (great for antique hunters) about a 30 minute drive away. Peterborough and Boston are both a 45 minute drive and the seaside town of Skegness is just over an hours drive away.
